Awkun is a robotic rover platform with a unique tether component providing a long-range control interface, and, mobile 3g / 4g / LTE cellular, and wifi service coverage to users in the area in the event of an emergency.

The robot is primarily being designed for search and rescue operations where distressed people with cell phones, or, animals that contain RFID chips can be found using wireless means. This allows the robot to try and open a line of communication with the distressed and emergency services to help locate the best method of assisting.

Artifical intelligence plays a large role in the robots ability to learn to avoid objects that are often in its path. It also helps to plan search patterns with other Awkun units using the unique tether. This helps maximize the coverage that is given to an area quickly based on real-world input and the ability for the units to stay in contact. Finally, this helps the robot, and a group of robots to coordinate their available power before needing to come in for a recharge.
